Ivy Chiu is a queer, nonbinary Director of Photography based in Austin, TX.

Ivy has shot fly fishing while neck-deep in the Pacific Ocean, been detained by militia for drone work in Mongolia, and swam to Kalalau Valley while floating trash bags full of equipment to shore. They approach photography with a keen eye and open mind to the flow. Ivy contributed photography to Oscar-nominated Boys State and operated camera on Richard Linklater’s Apollo 10 1/2. You’ve seen their work at SXSW, Tribeca, Sundance, on TV and streaming platforms.

As a Taiwanese immigrant raised in the Evangelical South, Ivy’s multifaceted identity enables them to hold space for those in front of and behind camera. They see through a lens of compassion, play, and curiosity.

They are currently directing I Need Space, a series of documentary films featuring Austin’s queer nightlife performers as they create, defend, and reimagine their future in conservative Texas.

Give them a shout :)
